Preparing for Adventure

My delicious week-long detaching continues as I anticipate our 4-night 5-day expedition to Lake Powell. Nevermind the endless lists of bedding, food supplies, sunscreen and gifties that must all be counted and accounted for and the reconciliation of mayonnaise preferences among the relations, this year the shortcut is open! The drain of constant vigilance and paranoia for the safety of the little ones (and bigger little ones) pales when compared with the euphoric "SHE'S UP" as Madeline waterskis for the first time.

I'm so grateful for the sisters-in-law and sister with whom I trade raucaus child protection time in turn for a stolen hour of solitude. They never mind me screaming across the lake at their child to "get away from the edge" because I hope they'd do the same for my children. One look at the golden, smiling, exhausted faces of the kids makes it all worth it. Mike and I can get away another time.
